Macguyver could’ve built that out of a couple of paper clips and a stapler and half a roll of electric tape
Every time I click one of your videos all I hear is don’t leave the cutoff tool in the hardy hole
This is great, I appreciate your straight forward no B/S. Approach ! thanks much!!
Watched this video again. He is right on. The knives I make I do more than 4 hours just hand sanding alone. In total I'm putting about 30 hours into making a nice knife. When you consider material costs of steel, exotic wood, aluminum or brass for a bolster/pommel, G10 liners on some, pin stock, G10 epoxy, sanding belts, Dremel bits, sandpaper of multiple grits, power hacksaw blades, buffing wheels, polishing compounds, propane, Parks 50 quench oil ($60 a gallon), and there is more. Now consider a leather sheath, cost of leather, dyes, finishing oils, thread and needles, specialty toolkit, stamps, and there is more. I also bought about $1500 in tools. When I add it all up with labor at a modest $20/hr plus materials about $70 a very fair price is at least $600 for a knife and sheath (some are fancier than others so more labor time and worth more) that is a "one of" custom build. With many nice knives (likely many mass produced) on the market from 150-400 I can't be bothered trying to sell mine. I'm sure not going to work for $2/hr. It takes a lot of skill and talent to make a nice custom knife and sheath unless it is a mostly automated process. I can't afford a CNC machine, a mill, a lathe, a heat treating oven, etc so my work is mostly by hand with a few basic tools. I've made about 55 knives in the last 2 years so far and each one is different...no two the same. People that see them in person are always impressed and always say I should sell them, but the market is flooded with cheap knives, so unless you have a recognized name, it is just not realistic.
Funny,, just sold an old anvil, an the old timer tested the rebound first thing :)
Fuckyeah thanks duder.
Wasn't this the guy who got kicked out on Forged in Fire for crappy railroad spike challenge?
Aren't you the guy that got arrested for trying to get the petting zoo goats to give you a golden shower?
Thank you for your video about jet fuel softens steel beams. I always knew it, but now I **know** it. There's nothing quite like a first hand demonstration. I think about that video from time to time. Thank you.
Excellent video
I've always wanted to be a bladesmith since I was a kid, and now at 28, I spent like $350 the other day to get the materials. I had the money, so I just went and bought the 66LB anvil on Amazon that was about 40% of the cost. Got a pair of tongs and a hair dryer and pipe to create the air flow I need to actually start working metal and start building experience. I bought 1095 steel pre-anealed so while it's made of harder stuff it ain't bad. And some fire bricks for a forge until I can do a little more. I got fire resistant cloth to make sure I don't start any fires in the yard. Please instruct me if there is anything else I need. I know dirtbox is a great option but it'll have to wait awhile.
Did the World Trade Center Towers Bend and fall over or did they mostly turn to dust ? I would eat a bag of turds if you can school me on how to do that get better at your job good talk
Hey bud, tell your wife to stop calling me. Her crease smells like moldybl hot dogs.
I agree I've been Blacksmithing for a long time. I just heard about this ABANA National Curriculum at BAM (Blacksmith Association of Missouri) this year. I got registered with ABANA and purchased the books from Mary Aspery. They are considered a must have for the Blacksmith. I am already starting on my National Curriculum training and hope to certify next year.
You should be in charge of teachers 👏
your my new favorite
Blacksmithing is cool but guzzling jet fuel isn’t
Congratulations on a nice job I wanted to ask you how many millimeters thick is the skin?
This hillbilly needs to leave his comments sections up so people can give him feedback on his stupid structural steel video. Cause censorship's not a good look.
What feedback is there to give. He was right
Oh wow, I didn't see that coming. Conveniently I was thinking "ok, that seems great but I am not cooking my Borax, that seems really time-consuming" while I watched
As a new blacksmith myself yea it's not my cup of tea but do we as people need to bring our opinion of what t-shirt shelf life" is and drag some ine else down so we can feel better, or superior to another person? Do I like it, no. But this individual didn't make this video for me to like maybe they made it for some ine else who does or maybe for themselves. Who knows but I do know in this world where people will gladly tear another person down just cus what they do or how they do things doesn't fit with how they think it should be done id rather just go on about my day we don't need more negativity
this is just a big mouth, his attempt to debunk the jet fuel story in relation to bending or melting steel is as amateuristic as can be. Who is paying him.
....your mother.
I did. I gave him 5 bazingaion dollars.
Too bad those steel beams weren't bent, but sheared clean off. Too bad your subs don't pay the bills. Your page is invalid, find a job.
All you showed in the steel debunked video was that steel weakens at 1500 degrees. You need prove it melts into slag for them idiots....😂😂😂😂
A coward turns off comments on a debunk video. Show me how steel MELTS at 1500° smart guy!!!!!? Melted slag on 45° cut steel beams is one of the biggest never debunked things that these cooks that believe it was an inside job believe yet you turn comments off so people can't challenge you!? Really. Just playing devils advocate😢 and i believe in free speech if you make public video you shouldn't be able to stop discourse.
Thanks for posting this, man. Great video think I'm gonna go that route for my first forge
You are right but 100's of years ago people in battle were killed with knives that were made out of more inferior metal, by those standards........."it will keel"
Great advice........great video..........thanks!
You can always forge weld an actual piece of high carbon steel inside of it
saw 4 guys that were working on a railway taking a break, asked them if i bought them coffees if they had any scrap pieces of track laying around, sure enough they had a 12 inch piece for me... bout 20$ was totally worth it
Well I wasn't expecting that ending lol
Zzzzzzzzzz
Explain wtc 7 bootlicker
Hey, just wanted to ask if you have any recommendations on books?
The big argument could be what some may consider a knife to be a "good knife". If it truly is as you say that a porkchop will dull it then ok. If it's up there with your average $30 pocket knives then why not? If it doesn't meet the standards of a super duper $300 knife then thats quite to be expected. All in all, more of a warning to consumers than those that will attempt to hammer out a knife from a spike. It's all the process from being a newb.
I know that spikes are easy to make novelty item but if I was to forge weird a higher quality of metal wouldn't that make it a better knife
This used for blank blades or csn be used for assembled knifes too?
it would have been nice to see them attach a knife to the holder, and yes, nice to see it on an assembled knife. Folks also like to sharpen knives how does it work then? I'd assume you might want to reverse the direction of the belt for using superfine grits, etc.
Got the idea that I was looking for. Tnx
I getting into knife making as a hobby and possibly 2nd income. Does it make more sense making more at a time?
Shop vac will work in place of a hair dryer. Just turn plug the hose into the outlet vent
Well thank you for that brutally honest lesson. I have a few railroad spikes I was going to make knifes, as gifts…. But I’ll hold off.
Idiot here: which books do u recommend?
aWESOME SAUCE, DEF MAKING THIS LATER TONIGHT
youre an arse for disabling comment on your bending steel video.... let's get this straight...there's SEVERAL pieces of FOOTAGE that CLEARLY show MOLTEN metal POURING out from the towers... what you are demonstrating is that a HALF INCH of steel BENDS at 300 degrees OVER the burning temp of jet fuel... but MASSIVE steel pillars were shown DRIPPING and POURING out from the towers. if 1800 degrees makes your little twig only BEND, what's generating the heat thats making STEEL PILLARS LITERALLY POUR OUT LIKE A FOUNTAIN?!?! #moron
Local internet man discovers that elements like aluminium have a lower melting point
@@haven216 lol youre assuming there was aluminum. i know there were steel beams. and where the molten metal was pouring from was in the same location as the beams.
@@OnlyGoodSHHH Are you saying there were no planes? If so, there’s no discussion
With all the time you spent spitting at your camera screen and yelling at "the idiots" you could have actually told us what the basics of steel metallurgy are regarding HC steel
Glass is superior to steel
